Happy All Saints’ Day!!!
Yeah! This is a day to be happy, a reason for celebration! Ever since, the practice – which our family does too – has been to cook special dishes, mostly native. A favorite is suman (here in Negros and in Iloilo) or biko (in Cebu) – same delicacy but different names. Maybe in some other parts of the Philippines, there are also other places with another name for this same yummy native concoction! Another favorite especially in most rural areas is the lugaw (here in Negros and in Iloilo) or binignit (in Cebu). What I have mentioned are just the most common which could be found in any table, even in the most depressed areas maybe.
For special occasions, but almost always for today’s feast, one very common dish here in Negros and in Iloilo is the arroz a la Valenciana, and by the sound of it, this has been adapted from mother Spain of long, long ago. Ahhh enough for food, it’s for you to find out if you can visit Negros.
Before I continue, may I confide. Today has been a memorable one for me, something that has taught a lesson to somebody, only by the ways of God, as I haven’t been able to make the correction of something we should have talked about. But looking back how it happened today, at this time when I’m about to end the day, here is another unexpected intervention of the Hand of God, and I can only praise Him more and more, we can never fathom His infinite ways!!! Thank You so much, Lord!
Going back to the topic, I have some deeper musings about this day – why we Filipinos put more emphasis in our celebration on November 1st rather than on the 2nd, when it’s the former which is the All Souls’ Day – but for now, shall we call it a day? I will to be back to this site tomorrow, so the topic would still be relevant, may it be God’s will too!
