What is Christian Love?
“And now I give you a new commandment, love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34). Christian love is Jesus’ command to us.
Simply for me, Christian love is wishing – and doing – good to our fellow men however unlovable he may be. The feeling may not be there (meaning, you may not like the fellow or the girl-next-door) but we should be good to him anyway. We still treat him fairly. We help him up when he stumbles and is badly hurt (go get him medicine), rather than saying, good for you
We just say to ourselves, we are doing it for Jesus. Then, we are practising love – Christian love! It surely is difficult, but by God’s grace, which we have to pray for always, it can be done.
. “If someone says he loves God, but hates his brother, he is a liar. For he cannot love God whom he has not seen, if he does not love his brother, whom he has seen.” (1 John 4:20)
“God is love and whoever lives in love lives in union with God and God lives in union with him.” (1 John 4:16)
Any reaction please? What’s your piece of mind on this? Or a sharing of how you practise it?
